Germany’s April 2025 Preliminary CPI Data Released
On April 30, 2025, the Federal Statistical Office of Germany (Destatis) published the preliminary Consumer Price Index (CPI) data for April. The data indicates that consumer prices increased by 0.4% compared to the previous month, aligning with market expectations.
Year-over-year, the CPI rose by 2.1%, slightly above the anticipated 2.0%. The Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP), which allows for comparisons across European Union countries, showed a 2.2% increase from the same month last year.
Core inflation, which excludes volatile items such as food and energy, stood at 2.9% in April. This figure suggests that underlying price pressures remain persistent, despite the overall moderation in headline inflation.
The release of these figures comes at a crucial time for the European Central Bank (ECB), which has been closely monitoring inflation trends to inform its monetary policy decisions. The slight uptick in core inflation may influence the ECB’s approach to interest rates in the coming months.
The final CPI data for April is scheduled to be released later in May, which will provide a more comprehensive view of the inflationary trends in Germany.
